Steve Uhthoff Working on Hull Painting in Annapolis, Maryland

To put it simply, Steve Uhthoff is known as one of the best gelcoat and fiberglass craftsmen on the Chesapeake. Steve takes great pride in performing superior quality work — from structural repairs to mirror-finish paint jobs. Steve brings over 30 years of experience and his exceptional attention to detail to each project. His wife, Tracy Uhthoff, is an integral part of the business, running the daily aspects of the office so Steve can do the work he loves. Together, they have built a reputation for great customer service and impeccable quality workmanship. Annapolis Gelcoat & Fiberglass Repairs is based at Bert Jabin’s Yacht Yard in Annapolis and performs mobile work throughout the Chesapeake Bay region.

Steve is also one of only a few in the area proficient at handling repairs and construction with the new material technologies of carbon fiber and Kevlar. In his spare time, Steve designs and builds boats in addition to rebuilding his own boats.

Steve was born to be in the boating business. He grew up cruising on a sailboat, living aboard for over 26 years starting at the age of eight, cruising the U.S. coasts to as far as Haiti. Steve grew up learning the art and craftsmanship of yacht repair from his father who was a truly trained shipwright. His first job, at age 14, was working for Annapolis Spars fairing and painting masts. He worked in most of the area boat yards, progressively learning all aspects of boat repairing and finally owning Steve’s Yacht Repairs and Annapolis Harbor Boat Yard on Spa Creek in Annapolis. While owning Steve’s Yacht Repairs, Steve was well known for his very high quality work fairing and shaping world class race boats in addition to the local racing fleets such as the Mumms, Melges and J-Boats. After selling the boat yard, Steve saw a niche in yacht repair as a small customer-oriented fiberglass/gelcoat repair and paint shop. He has brought Annapolis Gelcoat & Fiberglass Repairs up to new levels of yacht restoration and customer service, taking special care of the entire vessel while working on it and providing well-beyond the normal quality of work typically found in the industry. AGFR is renowned for doing the job right the first time!
